Drishyam 2 (2022): Strong Climax Saves Disaster

Drishyam 2, one of the most highly anticipated crime thrillers, made its theatrical debut on Friday, November 18. It stars Ajay Devgn, Tabu, and Akshaye Khanna . After Vijay Salgaonkar (Devgn), who commits a crime, is cleared of all charges due to a lack of proof. The story picks up where the first film left off. As Tabu (Meera Deshmukh), who returned in a more aggressive manner to get revenge on Vijay, teamed up with Akshaye to once again delve into the death or disappearance of her teenage son, the stakes increased in the sequel. Was Vijay able to hide the crime? that is the question that arises as the story moves forward in time after seven years.

Drishyam 2 is mostly a gripping crime thriller, but it also has some funny and heartwarming scenes. The ability of Vijay Salgaonkar to quickly turn a situation around still exists.

Vijay lives in the Goan countryside with his wife Nandini (Shriya Saran), daughters Anju (Ishita Dutta), and Anu (Mrinal). The murder of IG Meera’s kid took place seven years prior to the events of the movie. Salgaonkar is certain that his family is secure, despite how thoroughly the police search the city. But soon long, he and his family will be taken back to the police station, only this time they will be equipped with evidence and a witness. Vijay Salgaonkar is eager to fulfil his long-held desire of producing a script he has written now that he is the owner of a theatre. He spent Rs 25 lakhs just on the script’s development, so does his desire to finance a movie just stem from ambition, or is there more to it?

The answer to that query is at the heart of Drishyam 2, which extends beyond the developing story that reflects what Salgaonkar and his family’s future holds. When the court learned that the Salgaonkar family had been tortured into confessing, and that every word Vijay had said was identical to the book, he wrote about what he had done and was released from custody. The first half of the movie sets up what will happen in the second half. The film’s surprising turns and climax are clearly the winners.

First lets talk about the negatives. The first half of the movie was very slow. It took a very long time in building the suspense. Most of the characters had no purpose such as the daughters Anju and Anu. It was a basic boring movie where the hero has done everything right unless you torture his family. Vijay broke down and was ready to confess as soon as the police tortured his family, which was just lazy story writing.

Now here comes the best part about the movie. There is absolutely no way you don’t hold the edge of your seats while watching the climax. Vijay, the mastermind, wrote a book and published it in the name of another writer. In the book he wrote about all the things he has done. When the court found that the Salgaonkar family had been tortured into making a confession, they released him.. Every word said by Vijay was same as the book.

As far as remakes go, it is a pleasure to finally come across someone who favoured an interpretation rather than a mindless carbon copy. It would be good to see Bollywood coming up with its own ideas rather than desperately seeking inspiration from other regions of the country. But, the best remake that we have seen this year from Bollywood is Drishyam 2. What a climax! Huge respect for such a climax. Remake or not, this movie is a must watch.
